A cooling system problem brought me to Golden Gear for a diagnosis. I received prompt and courteous attention from the service person and a thorough repair analysis and estimate the following day. This was for an older VW Jetta and so parts had to be special ordered, which understandably delayed repair; but the radiator replacement was all I could possibly hope for. So I feel that Golden Gear is a Sebastopol-based shop that I can highly recommend to anyone for their automotive repair needs-- and they do smog test and repair as well!

Great experience. Honest and informative. I took my car elsewhere and they tried to tell me a million things were wrong with my car and that I had to fix them all at once (over 3k+ in repairs). At golden gear I just told them what the error codes were and how the other shop said I needed to fix everything at once and Alex (the owner) explained to me that yes those repairs are warranted but not crucial to the drive ability of my vehicle. In the end Golden Gear just fixed the crucial components of my vehicle and I got out of there paying less $600 for the repairs (way better than 3k+) and my car runs great. 10/10 would recommend based on honesty alone.

I know Alex from long time, when I knew he was running his own shop I didn’t doubt to take my cars to smog them at his shop. Alex works with ethics and integrity. I recommend Golden Gear Automotive without hesitation.

Needed smog test in 84 Ford Ranger. Made appointment with Golden Gear. They were ready. Performed the test and I had the Ranger back in 30 minutes. r
